Amatsu is a gentle, whole-body therapy that works with your body's own ability to restore balance - physically, emotionally, and mentally.

A therapy rooted in natural movement

WHAT IS AMATSU?

Amatsu has its roots in traditional Japanese medicine and the martial art of Taijutsu, and is based on the principles of natural movement. It is a gentle, soft-tissue therapy that works to restore the body to its anatomical neutral position, releasing restrictions within the fascia (connective tissue), organs, ligaments, muscles and skeletal structure.

Rather than simply treating symptoms, Amatsu looks for the underlying causes. It works with the body as a whole, recognising that pain or discomfort in one area is often a sign that something elsewhere has been out of balance for some time.

How does the body get out of balance?

When the body begins to move out of alignment, we are not always immediately aware of it. The body adapts to accommodate the misalignment, allowing us to continue functioning. Over time, factors such as diet, lifestyle and stress can lead to further adaptations.

The body continually compensates to maintain balance - but eventually, pain, discomfort, or inflammation may arise as signals that something is not right.

Being out of balance can affect many of the body's systems, including the digestive, immune, endocrine, lymphatic, cardiovascular and central nervous systems. It can also influence how we feel emotionally and psychologically.

Treat the Cause, Not Just the Symptom

Amatsu works to identify areas of imbalance and instability, focusing on the underlying causes of your symptoms rather than simply addressing the pain itself.

    The Whole Body in Mind

By working with the body as a whole - structure, movement, posture, lifestyle and emotions. Amatsu encourages it to return to homeostasis: its natural state of balance.

    Gentle & Non-Invasive

The techniques used are gentle, low-impact and respectful. Amatsu never uses force, making it a very safe therapy suitable for people of all ages and conditions.

Our Process

Treatments are carried out with you fully clothed - comfortable, loose clothing works best. Each session lasts approximately 50–60 minutes and involves a combination of soft-tissue and mobilisation techniques, tailored to your body on the day.

No two sessions are exactly the same. The treatment is quiet and supportive, allowing the body space to release tension and begin to return to balance.

REACTIVE VS PREVENTATIVE CARE

To address a particular issue, a course of 3–6 treatments is often recommended, giving the body time to begin holding and retaining corrections. After that, regular maintenance treatments can help support ongoing balance and wellbeing - keeping the body aligned before issues have the chance to return.

Over time, clients often develop a deeper awareness of their own body, noticing what puts strain on them, whether physical, emotional or environmental and using Amatsu proactively to stay well.
